The Writing Coach Podcast with Rebecca L. Weber

Mar 29, 2022

In the middle of the night I emailed myself an idea I didn’t want to forget. I sat down with my freelance journal and phone in the morning to use the message as a prompt. Here’s what I typed:

Reason why chsbgdx

So helpful, right?

I wish I knew what this word (or phrase) was supposed to be. Since I consistently generate ideas, and I’m in the habit of writing them down, I’m not overly concerned about losing this one. It will show up in some other form, or I’ll just come up with more.

Some consistent habits are great for reminding us what we’ve said our priorities are. But “consistency” has taken on nearly moral value lately. As freelancers we consistently (!) hear messages to show up regularly in all sorts of ways. If consistency is a virtue, does that mean inconsistency is a character flaw?

Often when people cite consistency as the key to their success, they’re overlooking other external and internal factors. Let’s look at some different ways to frame consistency, and how to not use it against yourself.
