The Writing Coach Podcast with Rebecca L. Weber

Sep 6, 2018

This episode addresses two of the most requested topics my readers told me they wanted to hear about: travel writing and pitching.

Should you pitch your travel story ideas before or after you have a notebook full of notes?

In theory, you can do it successfully either way. You could do a little research and prereporting, pitch, get an assignment, schedule your interviews and be confident out in the field knowing who you’re writing for and what your angle is. Or you could set off on the trip, be open to what’s around you, reflect on it, and pitch when you get home and then get your assignment.

And let’s face it. You could also pitch and face silence or rejection either before the trip or after the trip.

If you knew it was going to work out either way, which would you prefer?
